Szechuan Court

First thing that greeted me was the big hmm, huge maybe..doorway at Szechuan court which was craved from elm wood with big red lanterns hanging high on both sides. First thought was the entrance was abit intimidating and austere, however on further dining thru the night, I realised that it wasn't a place for hushed conversations or high aristocrats, rather the restaurant fashioned itself more for the vibrant crowd who dined in a family orientated and spirited manner! Besides it being very much a family restaurant, it also catered an intimate experience for those who needs privacy in the lush booth seats that come attached with fuchsia drapes. I think i would have like one of those booth seats as all of them came with a window view towards our infamous 'durian'. alritey now for the ambience, let's bring in the food!

Dinner menu for the Yeo Family:

To start off was Vegetarian Soup Jyunsai with bamboo pith, very clear and light, which will make you feel so very wholesome and healthy. What a great way to kick things off! Next dish came up real fast, even before i had time to finish slurping up my soup.

Introducing the time-honoured favourite Szechuan Smoked Duck with Camphor Wood and Tea Leaves. True to its name, its really good. Highly recommended. The breast meat though dry (come on, all breast meat are dry) but it was soooo tender and pleasantly fragrant that i gobbled all of it down, even without the sauce.

Next up was Deep-Fried Crispy Chicken with Hot Sesame Sauce, again the meat was tender and thigh bits were succulent. Not spicy at all for those who cant eat chilli yet spicy enough for a tongue trigger. My mother loves it for its crispy yet not oily skin. However the Yeos in the house all voted overall for the duck for its original taste and flavour.

5th dish that the waitress brought was Sauteed Broccoli with garlic, the dish that shocked my mother most as it was the most costly. Even more expensive than our fowls.

Lastly to fill our stomachs was Fried Vermicelli with Seafood which was dressed to the brim with chokefuls of scallops bits and prawns. Nicely done. Not overfried, wet or runny, Just nice. oh did i say finally already? haha...okie, final finally was dessert. Herbal jelly for my sis (nothing special) dad and mum had the sesame paste (too sweet) , wj and i shared the mango pudding (thumbs up!) that was topped with fresh mango and just sweet enough and not too sweet.

Gosh!

So much has happened over the week! OT OT OT. lots of drawings to submit, almost on a weekly basis, updated drawings for endless meetings, conferences, counting area for the umpteenth times and amidst all this, the Charles and Keith final 50% sale! ha!

really! it's the amazing race. monday was late till 3am, tuesday to 930pm (thank god!finally can go back and catch some zzz) last week was late nites till 11pm everyday, but wj and i still managed to squeeze in some recreation time! 2 glasses of red wine 1 pint of Guiness stout at Dirty Nellys (think 3 weeks ago, will post photos when i can manage! ha!) ...We caught a late nite movie on friday "Evan Almighty", really hilarious which bought much relief and happy tears to our lately stressful and hectic lives, saturday was "Hairspray", another comedy but with a tune, very much like a musical and makes u wanna sway to the actress' singing, get up and dance with your feet! Truly enjoyable. Now we just need some more time to catch up with 881 and Ratatouille?? (hmm, forgive my french)

Yesterday i managed to 'sneak' out of office at 630pm and had a real swell time at the national museum as it was having its soft launch of the William Farquhar Collection of Natural History Drawings and HEAR HEAR HEAR! to celebrate our national museum turning 120th this year after its' much awaited facelift by the reknowned firms W architects and CPG.

WOOHOO! not to the akis...to the light refreshments and the wine by Cornerstone. Yummy and so sinful. okie, sorry girls, no photos here but there was a photographer there, hmm maybe like elle said, u might just catch us PPGs somewhere in some arty farty mag....hahah.

ps: i forgot to mention about our 4 legged friends' birthdays (soggy balls and bow wows!) and mummy's one too! Happy birthdays to all the virgoes in the house!!!! And the delicious meal at Szechuan court, the weekend stay at Swissotel and finally of cos to wrap mummy's birthday at PS cafe's brunch!

new computer buddies

recently i have grown a little fondness for turtles! and when 'Action City' brought these cute buddies to town, i couldnt resist not buying them! and they come in green, blue and brown shells but best of all, they even have a pink shell too! so rite now, they are sitting on mine and wj's computer screens to keep us company. Whilst taking a little break at work, i took some photos of them at how they can keep us both laughing.

okie, not to be bias by the curt treatment i got the last time when i was there. This time i paid a visit to the sister store at Great World City. And true to the salesman's word, here is much bigger and has more stuff! my sis digs the painted cow figurines that hail from holland. She is regretting now for not buying them. I still stand by my words. It's nothing great. Yes, very eye candy and pricey, maybe i can afford a packet of napkins...or maybe a stalk of dandelion but truely, how many of you out there can buy the whole set of furniture? and even if u do manage to afford it, how long can this 'romantic, luxurious' style be 'IN'? Think chandeliers chandeliers chandeliers...hmm, does it look like those far east little shops now?

One would look on the longer run for his money, the lasting classic style of simple lines and easy maintaining furniture compared to the 'velvet or leather throne' chairs, carpets which gather dust easily unless u have maids to clean for u, beautiful delicate crockery which u wouldn't want your guests' 3 year old kids near them, faint u will or even the adults themselves scratch it with a fork!
