i did some light research and Lantau island is the largest island in the HK archipelago - almost twice the size of HK island and it has the world's largest seated outdoor bronze Buddha statue.
This bronze statue is found at Po Lin Monastery and is oldest Buddhist monastry in the territory. The buddha statue was welded together from over 200 individually cast bronze plates. Weighing 250 tons and sitting at 34m high. there is a village near the statue where one can do some shopping and sight seeing, the last time i heard, spending HK $200 you will get a free ticket down to the city area.
Getting there: Bus 23 from Tung Chung MTR station. Bus ride takes approx 1hr.
Stanley Markets
A venue that has become a favourite with the angmohs. One look and u might not even think that u are actually on asian soil! Along stanley bay, a string of pubs line the promenade and one can easily recognise the diners at the alfrescos are all whites basking in the sun, turning into lobsters with a terrible uneven tan. The market itself sells a myraid of wonders from souvenir, dog clothings, children clothings, artworks, bags and shoes.
hmm...anyway i think it's a place to see and say that u have been here and done that. As for shopping, i think other parts of HK will be selling the same thing at a cheaper price.
Murray House
Built on the Queen's Road Central in 1844, this 3 storey former British army quarters was dismantled in 1982. Its 4,000 pieces of carefully numbered stones were then reassembled at Stanley in 2000. It now houses a maritime museum and restaurants where we had lunch.
Getting there:
Bus 6,6A,6X or 260 from Exchange Sq in Central. We took the express bus which cost more but it was faster.
