So here we are at the Bus stop, taking a bus down to Jiufen. Well, we didnt really get to Jiufen directly cos wj saw a police station on the way and because according to our sources: once see police station, drop at the next 2 bus stops. Which we did.
Alas and ended at some ulu pandan place!
we managed to walk about 15mins found a 7-11, the lady told us it was somewhere up there, said to ask other passerbys along the way...okay.
walked another 15mins, this time we ask a cab driver. He told us it was blardee far!
*Faints*
now i dunno who to believe.
So we walked into a video shop and ask, the storekeeper said we should seriously take a cab since he himself also dunno how to get here by bus.
*Wince*
so we hopped onto a cab. Cost us $200NTD.
Lesson learnt.
So...we are here! Jiufen Laojie certainly has it charms and WJ lurves this place tremendously!!!
The walkways were pebbled and the scale of building heights and alleys added that intimate touch. It was rustic and charming in its own way.
Along the street, there were many stores selling souvenirs, local snacks!!! (yumyum!) and other knick knacks.
There were some houses which allowed visitors to spend a nite there too!
Jiufen's BIG BIG fishball with meat stuffings!
the stall we went to was visited by many local artistes! including Jacky Wu and Jolin Tsai. And of cos there were many others...well u figure it out when u get there!
Yam glutinous riceballs in sweet syrup. WJ likes this very much. as for me: YUCKS.
hmm... which pineapple stall should i buy from....hmmm
wirey sky...
more snapshots at the top of Jiufen.
see the door with the red hearts? that one has rooms for visitors to spend overnite! and it has its own 'cafe' indoors and balcony which is made into an alfresco dining area for its occupants!
sweets that made to look like cigarette boxes...
we bought some local snacks home...the famous yoghurt glutinous rice balls! very nice! comes in all sorts of flavours from strawberry, kiwi, peach, blackcurrant, pineapple and they even have savoury ones which tasted weird to me. And they have beany flavours like red bean and green bean and yam too! so many!
if any of you gals are visiting there, should really try the grilled and fried mushrooms! so delicious!!! ooishii!!!!
finally we are descending from the hills...lalala...of to Miaokou Foodstreeet...more eating again..think my tumtum is grumbling!!! and putting lots of weight over the past 2 days!!!
we tried the glutinous rice (mushrooms dried shrimps, dried scallops) and crab soup...which was quite thick and gooey. the taste overall was acceptable. Though i still think SIngapore is better! im a patriot. hahaha
Further on, of cos we come all the way to Taiwan, die die also must eat their Taiwanese sausage rite! haha so we bought 5 minis to eat along the way!
