Lazy Jeudi

Had a French group meeting in the morning. It was our turn to present a cultural aspect of France during our French class tmw. I was going to talk about the Eiffel tower...so we had a discussion on how to present it tmw. Think we went pretty okie...afterwhich i met wj at the school's cafeteria and we went to the shanghai dumpling house for a plate of dumplings...comme d'habitude, it was packed with angmohs and chinois alike.

we wun exactly full, neither were we hungry and it was such a beautiful day to stay indoors...and we have sort of walked up and down swanston a couple of times...so we popped inside Crown Cafe for a cuppa cafe and gateau. If only time stood still...but of cos it didnt.

back to the apt to practice my speech on the eiffel tower...

"...the eiffel tower is a metal tower which is built on the champ de mars beside the river seine in Paris. It is the tallest structure in Paris and is considered on of the most recognised symbols in the world. Named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, today, it is one of a premier tourist destination spot...."

and it goes on and on the whole nite........

"... it was built for the universal exhibition in celebration of the french revolution. the tower stands at 300m which is about 75 stories and the metal structure of the tower weighs 7300 tonnes. the number of steps to the summit has changed through various renovations. today it has 1665 steps and elevator which serves the tower...."

Funny quotes:
Upon the Nazi occupation of Paris in 1940, the life cables were cut by the French so that Hitler wuld have to climb the steps to the summit in order to hoist the German flag. Note at that time there was a whooping 1710 steps to the summit platform! However the swastika flag was so large that it was blown away a few hours later and they had to go back up again with a smaller one. This time Hitler chose to stay on the ground.
