Sanpoutei Ramen

I've always seen long queues snaking outside Sanpoutei Ramen...so finally i get a chance to try it today. I can only say I still prefer Ippudo Ramen, Nanteitsu Ramen and Tampopo.

Dancing Crab @ Vivocity

hubs has craving for lobsters and crabs.
so we decided to try Dancing Crab which is a Lousiana Seafood, my guess is that probably where it all started from...seafood cooked in a pot and served on a table...in a pretty mess?
We had their Dancing Crab Signature Combo - Sri Lankan Crab which cost $88 that came with 1 Sri Lankan Crab, prawns, clams, corn and sausages. And for combos like these, you get to choose your sauce (signature, Beurre Blanc, Zesty Garlic Butter or Creamy Pepper). We tried their Signature in Mild.

For those of you who don't really eat spicy then I will recommend the Mild because after eating awhile, the whole spicy-ness really gets into your head.

And for 2 persons, the combo is good enough. Unless you are really really hungry, then perhaps you can order an appetiser or another main.

overall i think the price is pretty decent, the waiting time wasn't too long but probably because i went on a weekday lunch time. The staff are attentive, the taste is good, the seafood is quite fresh too.

so i will be back!

Forty Hands Cafe Brunch!

Forty Hands Cafe is located in the Tiong Bahru Estate where a few quirky shops sprouted overnight! Besides this funky and popular cafe, opposite it there's a lifestyle shop where you can visit after your meal.

Hubs had the Big Boy Breakfast which was simply delicious! The sausages were tasty, and so were the sauteed mushrooms. It came with 2 fried eggs, baked beans, grilled half tomoate and 2 slices of pita bread topped with garden greens.

And I had the eggs benedict! Yes, lately i have been trying out egg benedict at most brunch places.

we shared a large cafe latte and it was really aromatic! The barrister was very skilled in coffee art too...My latte had a swan in it.
it's quite easy to spot forty hands from the surface carpark with its huge signage at the back. Here once you parked your car, you can enter the cafe via the rear through a small courtyard. There's outdoor and indoor sittings. The outdoor seats are filled with old furniture and industrial wire mesh done up for the table legs.

Crab Feast at Melllben

Heard quite a bit about this little seafood restaurant in Ang Mo Kio so I decided to check it out! Online, they are well known for their butter crabs and crab beehoon and many have to Q at least 2 hours during peak hours.

we ordered 2 crabs done in butter and claypot beehoon soup style. Each crab was $50. Prices quite steep considering that my crab at Jumbo or Long Beach Seafood usually cost $50 too! And this place is under a HDB.

The waiting time was quite long considering that we arrived very early and it wasn't full house yet. But nevertheless when it came, WAH! The claypot crab beehoon soup was really good! The soup was very wholesome, the crab was fresh, did not stick to the shell and came off very easy.

The butter crab was equally good too, although i thought it was a dry dish but it came wet with buttery sauce!

All-in-all, I think if I'm ever craving for claypot beehoon crabs, this is the place to go for sure!!

PPGS meet!

We (3 gals and 1 guy) decided to meet just before Valentines day for a quick gathering and to take a look at Joelle's swanky new place down at Greenwich. So Joelle proposed for brunch at Greenwood Avenue before heading down to her place.

after walking the stretch of restaurants and bistro, we decided to try out this place called Bronte!

Bronte at Greenwood Avenue

We went there at 1-ish on a saturday early afternoon and there was quite a crowd but we still managed to find some indoor seats... service was prompt and so was the food.

here's the Brunch menu which is available on their website:

here's a photo of us from joelle...always trying new styles of photography. Guess that's why it captures the most of her!!! (bottom left head!)

here's joelle and pengs

me and ash

my brunch of the day - ala my Bronte Brekkie Plate which really overwhelmed me, even a pregnant mum like me couldn't finish the entire lot! In the end I cleaned up everything except the scrambled eggs.

Pengs had the steak burger....she left the bread alone and ate all the insides...

ash had the same as me but he cleared his plate clean! Only difference was he had his eggs poached.
Joelle had the Ricotto pancakes with bananas and maple syrup. The ricotto was embedded in the pancake so it was like a big omelette when it first came. The bananas on top, sliced in half and maple syrup was served on the side.

heehee... this is the first time that hubs is eating at Skinny Pizza... while i had once before with my girlfriends at CityHall basement before so I've always wanted to bring him to try their pizzas and pasta!

this time, we were at Great World City and they have a branch there!
So we tried out their Ginger Butter Chicken pizza $21 which tasted like India (hubs told me that it was Tandoori chicken!) , shared a crab pumpkin soup $6 which was ok, and a Black Pepper Prawn Linguine $18 which had really huge prawns and fresh roe on top! And we shared a side too - sweet potato nibblets $7

As usual, their pizza crust is super thin and crispy, even hubs says it's like eating cream soda crackers...it was really thin and the ingredients were sort of falling off as the crust couldn't really take the weight of all the toppings.

here's a look at the crab pumpkin soup which comes with a slice of toasted multi grain bread

the pasta...all black and spicy!

our skinny pizza- Ginger Butter Chicken which totally reminds me of Indian Cuisine fare!

side kick - sweet potatoes!! my fave at the moment! - comes in a metal tin like those NS boys would use when they go outfield. hahaha....
