Shrine of Remembrance

waiting for the tourist shuttle...

today is one of the days where i visit a little bit of melbourne before i leave and we are off to the Shrine of Remembrance! Yes i'm very ashamed of myself for not visiting this place before and sure didnt regret this visit. And we were not the only visitors as there were many many flies who were just as curious about the place as us!

for those who are interested in visiting the place may like to know that u can take the FREE tourist shuttle bus to the Shrine which is located along St Kilda road. The tourist shuttle brings visitors to other interesting places as well but needs a wee bit of waiting as it comes like every 15mins. Me and WJ took it from the junction of exhibition st and latrobe st.

One of the four groups of statuary which mark the corners of the Shrine. Greek and influences can be seen, but no Christian motifs. The four statuary groups representing Peace,Justice, Patriotism and Sacrifice were created by sculptor Paul Montford.

Visitor Centre: addition by ARM.
Like a cookie cutter, it carves into the soil to become a new underground cavern with a new approach to the Shrine. The red brick wall was lined with a perimeter of poppies with a carved sentence on the wall saying ' Lest we forget'. And the glass too were imprinted with poppies. On the other side of the shrine, adjacent on aerial view, is another 'cookie cut' which is the courtyard area where me and wj saw the dandelions fluttering in the air. It was very serene and i sat on the stone block for awhile despite the hot glaring sun.
i remembered to sit and view nature in its beauty for a minute that day and i was pretty pleased.

what are summer nites without the famous suzuki nite mart at vicmart? Boasting of international foodstalls of great culinary skills, they are all set to serve all gastronomical feast for everyone!
it was a first visit for me and wj and we are happy to say that it was well worth the visit. The stalls were not the repeated ones u get to see on the normal days but rather of another kind.
As for the food, i was very intrigued with the one that sold EMU, CRO and ROO meat...but i think wj was a teeny wee bit uncertain of his meat. In the end, we went to safe ol' chinatown for chinese food. *bleah*
