Parents in HK Day 01

Dad and mum arrived in HK last nite, but wj and i only came to visit them the next morning. well, HK hotels are not really affordable at this time of the year...

Anyway first thing on the itinery of the day is...

Breakfast! and what's the best way to start the day off is to have a sumptous hongkong style Tim Sum!!! Steamy piping hot char siew buns, savoury century egg congee, sweet meat fan cheong, har gao, siew mai, a plate of veggies and downed it all with cups of chinese tea and we are off to a bright new day of travelling!

Both parents were a wee tired though from last nite's late arrival. They touched down about midnite and i was told that they only got to the hotel about 2am in the morning, after all the arrival, boarding the coach, waiting for the rest to board as well, finding the hotel and dunno what happened, the hotel was fully booked..so got to wait again....for them to find a room for my parents.

First stop:
Causeway Bay's Time Square + abit of roadside hawker

Second Stop:
Jardine Crescent, we waited for those open air stalls to open cos we were abit early! haha...so brought my parents a walk at Jardine's Bazaar, a real taste at HK's pasar malam, very different from home.

3rd Stop:
Yishun Milk Pudding to rest our feet and feed our mouths!

4th stop:
Mum's colleague had put this MUST DO thing in her mind of trying Krispy kreme doughnuts.

Left to right: Xmas tree at mum's and dad's hotel lobby, lovey-dovey pic pic here...oooowww...., wj and i outside Times Square this christmas.

Above:
daddy caught us on camera: taking a photo of us while we took a photo of ourselves!

roadside food! daddy wasnt sure of the hygiene but i told him that i have been eating them for years now! Mum is very skeptical about the intestines and pouting again when daddy was offering it to her.

Above:
Mum's so happy to have found krispy kreme...
mum opening the box: "slowly now...we wouldn't want to slide the cream off the doughnut..."
dad:"....hmmm...yar yar ...."
Victoria's Peak and Peak Tower:

As i know, the Peak is the highest mountain on Hk island and is about 554m above sea level. We took the Peak Tram up which was snaking by the time we got there at noon. Weather was cooling but with the midnoon sun, i was perspiring under my coat!!! So we all sweat and queued.Too bad both dad and mum weren't eligible for the senior citizen's fee...which was one quarter of the price! Anyway, we waited about half an hour before we managed to get ourselves onto the tram.

The peak tram has been running over a century now and was HK first rail system. I personally think it was a pretty steep ride up! didn't really dare to turn my head around when i was going up!

From there, we bought ourselves coffee at Pacific Coffee and drank outdoors in the chilly windy day. Brrr....really cold. Ask my mum whether she wanted to visit Madam Tussaud's but she rejected my offer. Say waste of time, but i thot come all the way up here, then not going in, hmm...abit waste of a trip right?

oh wells mothers know best as they say.

So we drank in our coffee and the city skyline of HK.

Just wanted to say, last time b4 the renovation of the peak tower, the viewing gallery at the top was open to all, now they charge a fee. Bleah.

Getting there:
Take the free shuttle bus from Edinburgh Place to Garden Road where you can catch teh Tram up to the peak. Or, take thebus No.15 from Central's Exchange Square or mini-bus No.1 from the Prince of Wales Building to the Peak Galleria.

Tsim Sha Tsui Waterfront Promenade:

Brought my parents here to experience the combinations of reflections in Victoria Harbour + illuminations from the buildings (IFC, HSBC, Bank of China etc etc). We came here via the Star Ferry which is still in operation and still very cheap.

Then there was the clock tower icon for them to snap some pictures...the space museum that look like a tao sar bao. Walked quite abit around the vicinity....

however we didn't stay long enuff to view the symphony of lights.

But there is always tomorrow!

Dinner at TsimShaTsui.

Underground one level. Serves very good butter lobsters, sea bass, bamboo clams, peking duck and loads of japanese visit this one.

Dunno why, maybe it's because their menus is in Japanese?
